Kerry College Monavalley Campus Announces New Apprenticeship Training Facility
Kerry College Monavalley Campus is delighted to announce the recent completion of the fit-out and refurbishment of a former warehouse in Monavalley Business Park. From June 2024, this newly transformed space will be utilised to expand apprenticeship training provision on campus. This expansion will further increase the growth of apprentice registrations in County Kerry and meet the growing demand for apprenticeship training throughout the country.
This development is excellent news for Kerry College Monavalley Campus, local employers and apprentices, who will now have access to their off-the-job training in a timelier manner. Additionally, many Kerry apprentices will now complete their off- the-job training locally, eliminating the need to relocate to other parts of the country. The expansion also benefits businesses in Tralee town by ensuring a constant student presence throughout the year, including during the summer months. Most of the apprentices training at Kerry College Monavalley Campus are still travelling from outside of the County, benefitting local accommodation providers and businesses within and around Tralee.
With the increased capacity of apprenticeship training at Monavalley Campus, over 240 apprentices will be training throughout the summer. Some classes have already commenced, with further starts scheduled for June, July and August. Recent apprenticeship classes include the following:
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Carpentry and Joinery
- Motor Mechanics
- Metal Fabrication
- Manufacturing Automation and Maintenance Fitter
- Stonecutting and Stonemasonry
- Commis Chef
- Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician
- Cybersecurity
Apprenticeship demand and provision remain strong, with new apprenticeships coming on stream nationally throughout 2024. Plans for apprenticeship provision at Kerry College for the remainder of the year include the above areas, with additional classes commencing in September in:
- Sales
- Hairdressing
- Software Development
Tralee Chamber Alliance commends the efforts of Kerry College in expanding the apprenticeship offerings, and enhancing the public-private partnership approach to developing new apprenticeships. “The new apprenticeship training facility is a significant boost for our community,” said Stephen Stack, President of Tralee Chamber Alliance. “It not only supports local employers by providing a skilled workforce, but also keeps our young talent within the county. This development strengthens the relationship between Kerry College and the business community, driving economic growth and innovation in the region. I would also like to pay tribute to Ioseph Nestor – assistant campus manager here in Monavalley and Kasia Lyko – National Apprenticeship Programme Coordinator who are much valued members of the Chambers Education Steering Group Sub Committee.”
