Cara Credit Union Continues to Strengthen Local Communities Through the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards

Cara Credit Union remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering thriving local communities through the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards program. Established in 2017, this initiative has provided substantial support to numerous community-based projects initiated by organizations within the common bond of Cara Credit Union. These awards underscore the credit union’s dedication to enhancing the lives of its members and the broader community.

The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards have been instrumental in facilitating valuable community initiatives. Community groups and charitable organizations have greatly benefited from this program, exemplifying the credit union’s unwavering dedication to fostering positive change.

Sean Roche, Chairperson of Cara Credit Union’s Community Sponsorship Committee, emphasized the credit union’s commitment to its ethos, stating, “Cara Credit Union is acutely aware of the trust and loyalty we receive from our members. Supporting projects that contribute to the betterment of communities aligns seamlessly with our values. The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards allow us to channel funds into projects that complement the commendable efforts of community groups, enriching the lives and environments within Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway, and Corca Dhuibhne.”

Siobhan Donnelly, Marketing Manager of Cara Credit Union, shed light on the origin of the awards, saying, “Lauri Healy, a founding director of Tralee Credit Union, dedicated decades of his life to its advancement. He also played an active role in supporting and nurturing credit unions across Kerry and beyond. The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards stand as a testament to his legacy, a tribute to his remarkable contributions to the local community.”

The recipients of the 2025 Round 1 awards are as follows:

•    Anam Cara: The funds will be used to maintain essential support for parents who have lost a child through support groups. Offering free-of-charge, peer-to-peer group services to bereaved parents in Kerry, the funds will help ensure parents in Kerry have a place to turn to if they lose their child.

•    Langford Downs Residents Committee: The funds will be used to enhance a communal courtyard into a usable games area. This initiative aims to provide a designated space for children and teenagers to engage in physical activities.

•    Scoil Naomh Gobnait Dún Chaoin: The funds will be allocated for a new rubber soft pour school yard, greatly enhancing the safety and wellbeing of the children in the school.

•    Irish Red Cross Tralee Branch: The funds will be used to replace the 2006 Ford Transit Ambulance used by their voluntary First Aid and Ambulance Service. This will also be utilized by their Community Support Service Volunteers. The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards will be reopening again later in 2025.
