
THE first holes have been played and the verdict is in – the refurbished Aqua Golf at Aqua Dome Tralee has been a success and has secured a Ministerial seal of approval from Norma Foley.
The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley TD has officially relaunched the attraction which can claim its place at the top of the leaderboard only a month after reopening.
A hit with visitors, Aqua Golf features redesigned holes, new carpet greens, improved landscaping, refreshed water features, upgraded pathways and steps, galvanised vibrant red railings and a fully modernized guest experience while preserving the fun and character that decades of visitors have enjoyed.
In congratulating the Aqua Dome Board of Directors, management and staff on the wonderful redevelopment, Minister Norma Foley said,
“Today’s event is not simply about opening a newly refurbished miniature golf course, it is about celebrating another significant investment in one of Kerry’s most important tourism and leisure attractions.
“The importance of the Aqua Dome extends far beyond these walls as it is a major contributor to the local economy.
“Every family that visits the Aqua Dome also supports hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, cafés, shops and other attractions throughout Tralee and the wider county.
“The Aqua Dome encourages visitors to stay longer, spend more locally and return again while supporting employment directly and indirectly, making it an important economic asset for Kerry.”
The project was completed with thanks to financial support from LEADER with special thanks to the LEADER staff, Connor Linnane D C Paving, Micheál Brosnan Welding, PST Sports, Mike Lynch Electrical, Kerry Drains, Green Gardens and Aqua Dome staff who helped make the dream a reality.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors at Aqua Dome Tralee, Brian Durran, said,
“The Aqua Dome has become much more than just a water leisure facility in that it is a place where families create memories, children learn to swim, visitors discover Kerry hospitality, and generations have returned year after year.
“Today we are celebrating the completion of a significant investment of €500,000 which included not only the complete redevelopment of the Aqua Golf course but also the refurbishment of the public toilets in our reception area and changing village.
“The Aqua Golf course has played an important part in story, providing affordable outdoor fun to families, school groups and holidaymakers and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
Highlights of the refurbishment include:
- A full overhaul of each hole with redesigned bumps and bunkers
- New eco drains and water pipes to facilitate water drainage
- New edging was laid around each hole using concrete rumble Kilsern kerb surrounds
- Improved and new granite pathways and steps
- New galvanised vibrant red railings and barriers were erected ensuring safety protocols
- Upgraded landscaping and scenic elements
- Refreshed seating area
