Whether you are looking for a day-long festival or a week-long extravaganza, the Kerry region is home to some of the most celebrated and interesting festivals in the country. The Rose of Tralee International Festival takes place every August and is a celebration of all things Irish with an important opportunity for young women of Irish birth or ancestry to take part in a unique contest for the coveted title of Rose of Tralee. The Rose Hotel is delighted to be the official home of The Rose of Tralee International Festival at it is one of Ireland’s largest and longest running festivals. The Festival incorporates seven days of fantastic street carnival and entertainment, in addition to the Rose of Tralee Selection Nights broadcast live on RTE Television from the Festival Dome located right beside the hotel. The action-packed festival programme includes; children’s entertainment, live music, concerts, Ireland’s biggest International Fashion Show, fireworks, workshops, markets, circus, funfair and Rose parades. Puck Fair takes place each year from 10th-12th August in Killorglin, just a 25-minute drive from the Hotel. Every year a goat catcher goes up into the mountains to catch a wild goat. The goat is brought back to the town and the Queen of Puck, traditionally a young school girl from one of the local primary schools crowns him King Puck. This signifies that the festivities may begin! On the 3rd day – minus his crown – the goat is brought down to be led back to his mountain home. Listowel Writers’ Week, takes place at the end of May/early June each year and is an internationally acclaimed literary festival devoted to bringing together writers and audiences at unique and innovative events in the historic and intimate surroundings of Listowel, County Kerry.
