The National Folk Theatre of Ireland – Siamsa Tíre. Authentic traditional Irish music, song, dance and drama on stage – a truly magical experience not to be missed! Thousands of visitors to Kerry have picked out a performance by the National Folk Theatre in Tralee, County Kerry, as a highlight of their trip to Ireland.  Performances are delivered using all the strengths of Ireland’s traditional artforms which fuse to create a memorable and emotional experience for visitors in one of Ireland’s busiest theatres and arts centres. Regardless of where our visitors come from, or what language they speak, these stories can be experienced and enjoyed by people from all over the world. From its beginnings in 1968, the National Folk Theatre was set up to preserve and explore Ireland’s traditional music, song and dance through training and performance.  The company continues to develop new and exciting work and tours annually both in Ireland and abroad. From May – September, our 50th summer season performances include Fadó Fadó (celebrates times long past on the farm throughout the seasons), Oileán (celebration of life on the Blasket Islands) and Turas (a journey of Irish music, song and dance).  The summer season’s Grand Finale will be a performance of Anam, developed in 2016 and touring Ireland this September. Anam (meaning ‘soul’ in Irish) brings together the skills of world class step dancers from the US, Canada and Ireland in an exhilarating fusion of styles exploring the similarities and differences between the distinct hard shoe style of the dancers, performed with live music, song, and film.

Programme notes for our productions are available in German, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch as well as English and Irish.  Visitors can also learn Irish Dance and Song in workshops with the National Folk Theatre cast throughout the summer season. From October to April, Siamsa Tíre hosts a diverse programme events across all of the arts – drama, classical and popular music, dance, comedy and visual arts.  Our impressive theatre has a capacity of 350 seats and has a fully licenced bar.  We can offer whiskey and local beer tastings, Irish coffees, etc. and drinks can be pre-ordered for intermission and post-show. Souvenirs are also available to purchase. Our gallery space presents art exhibitions by Irish and international artists all year round supported by workshops and artists in residence programmes.
